Forum encouraging women to run for local government elections arrives in Cooma

The NSW branch of the Australian Local Government Women’s Association and Snowy Monaro Regional Council are hosting a free forum to encourage and help guide local women through the process of nominating and running for council elections.

With the next local government elections in New South Wales scheduled for Saturday September 4, 2021, the ALGWA ‘Getting Women Elected’ Forum to be held at Snow Mountains Traveller’s Rest, Cooma on Saturday May 29, 2021 is the ideal opportunity for local women who want to make a difference in their community and learn to get involved with those who have done it themselves.

“Representation is so important in politics. Councils in our region have lagged behind much of the rest of the country in electing or even running for our local elections, ”said Mayor Peter Beer, Snowy Monaro Regional Council.

“To all the women of Snowy Monaro who have ever considered politics, I strongly encourage them to participate in this important forum.”

Less than a third of NSW councilors are women, making our state the second-last for female representation in local government.
