There are news that leave you perplexed, and there are others that make you want to know more. Global business news publisher Quartz has an answer to both scenarios.

It introduced many features to help improve the player experience. For the crucial topics readers want to stay up to date on, there’s the Obsessions section. For stories that require deeper context, it recently rolled out its Essentials feature.

Providing a micro and macro perspective on global business trends is one of the main reasons Quartz newsletters have become a magnet for readers. They share the same writing format, which the team internally calls “nugs”. This approach works so well that three-quarters of members convert to paying subscribers because of the emails.

In this spirit, Quartz just expanded its membership to include four exclusive newsletters. In this week’s podcast, we’re joined by the editor Catherine Bell, which tells us more about the power of email for a membership organization and how audience insights shape strategy. Additionally, there is more information on how the newsroom uses everyone’s expertise when creating content.
