Loan Watch: the instant impact of Balogun for Boro | News

Five of our players have been in action for their respective loan clubs over the past week.

Read on to find out how they fared:

Folarin Balogun came off the bench in the 56th minute for Middlesbrough as they faced Coventry on Saturday and had an instant impact. Within seconds, our young striker sent in a perfect delivery for Andraz Sporar to score from close range for the game’s only goal. It was Balogun’s third appearance for Chris Wilder’s side since joining on loan earlier this month.

Alex Runarsson featured for OH Leuven as they drew 1-1 on the road at Waregem in the Belgian First Division last Wednesday. Sory Kaba put Leuven ahead before Jelle Vossen equalized for the hosts. Our goalkeeper has played eight times for Leuven since his arrival in August.

Brooke Norton Cuffy came on in the 77th minute as Lincoln was beaten at home by Burton on Saturday. The hosts took the lead through John Marquis, before second-half strikes from Joe Powell and Sam Hughes wrapped up Burton’s victory. It was Norton-Cuffy’s second appearance for the Imps since joining on loan.

Matt Smith played 87 minutes of Doncaster’s 3-1 home defeat to Plymouth on Saturday. The home side took the lead through Branden Horton, but the Pilgrims responded in impressive fashion, securing victory through strikes from Luke Jephcott, Joe Edwards and Jordan Garrick. Smith has played 31 times for Doncaster since his summer loan spell at the League One club.

Tyreece John-Jules made his Sheffield Wednesday debut on Saturday, coming off the bench in the 72nd minute as the Owls beat Ipswich 1-0 after Marvin Johnson’s early strike.
