TR, Chamber to Host Candidate Forums | News, Sports, Jobs
The Times-Republican and the Marshalltown-area Chamber of Commerce will host two forums this week with candidates for the Marshalltown council, mayor and school board.
The first event will be held for school board applicants from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum. There are four candidates – incumbent Karina Hernandez and newcomers Rebecca Kouang, Leah Stanley and Zachary Wahl – vying for three seats for a general four-year term. Incumbent Bonnie Lowry, who is looking to serve the last two years of her tenure, will face Melissa Nine for the seat.
The city council and town hall will take place on Thursday at the same time and in the same place. In the race for the city council, Mike Ladehoff is running for re-election without contest in the first quarter and Dex Walker runs without contest in the third quarter. Four candidates – Mark Eaton, Barry Kell, Jeff Schneider and Dean Stucky – are vying for two extraordinary seats. In the race for mayor, incumbent Joel Greer faces challenger Serina Stabenow.
Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce President John Hall and Times-Republican Editor-in-Chief Robert Maharry will co-moderate the two events, which are free and open to the public.
